AP State Government Issued Orders to Teach English from Class 1st from the academic year 2011-12
2011 – 12 విద్యా సంవత్సరం నుంచి ఇంగ్లీష్ ను 1వ తరగతి నుంచి భోధించాలని ఉత్తర్వులు జారీచేసిన రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం
The state government on 24th March 2011 issued orders introducing English as second language from Class 1 in all the government schools across the state from the ensuing academic year 2011-12. At present, English is being taught in government schools from Class VI.
The decision was taken to save the government schools from closure since they have been witnessing steep fall in enrolment over the last few years.
According to a report submitted by the Regional Institute of English, South India, Bengaluru, the percentage of enrolment of students in government schools in the state came down drastically from 52.48 to 55.72 in primary and upper primary schools while the private schools enrolment increased from 17.52 per cent to 44.28 per cent for the period from 1995-96 to 2009-2010.
